Charlottesville's Clean Energy Bill Goes Viral

by: CvilleDave

Tue Jan 27, 2009 at 10:01:14 AM EST

(Terrific news! Emails embedded for your convenience! - promoted by Eileen)

Senate Bill 1212, introduced by Sen. Deeds, would allow the City of Charlottesville to create an innovative financing program that would make it much easier for property owners to make clean-energy improvements to their homes and businesses.  For more info.: http://www.richmondsunlight.co...

Once word got out about this bill, other Virginia localities realized its tremendous potential and decided to seek the same authority.  Accordingly, at the request of the Virginia Municipal League and the Virginia Association of Counties, a subsitute bill is now being drafted that would allow ALL Virginia localities to create a similar program.  Private lenders will be encouraged to participate as well.

SB1212 is before the Senate Local Government Committee today, January 27.  If you are represented by Sens. Marsh, Quayle,  Martin,  Hanger, Ticer,  Reynolds,  Puller,  Ruff,  Cuccinelli, Obenshain,  Herring,  Locke,  Smith,  or Stuart,  please encourage them to support this bill!

UPDATE:  Senate Local Government Committee passed SB1212 unanimously this afternoon.  Now, on to the full Senate and the House.

Was great to see such bipartisan support for a measure that allows localities to play a lead role in building Virgnia's clean energy future!
